
Meet George Păunescu
Blending academic rigor with a deep-seated passion for the luminous landscapes of Romania, George Păunescu is a Romanian contemporary painter and UNESCO-affiliated artist whose work is shaped by a lifelong passion for light, color, and artistic exploration. Blending oils, acrylics, pastels, mural painting techniques, and organic dyes into richly expressive contemporary compositions, his paintings are inspired by the beauty of the Romanian landscape, village life, sacred spaces, and urban scenes, inviting viewers into vivid worlds where nature, memory, and emotion quietly converge.

Background
From an early age, George Păunescu demonstrated a remarkable artistic talent, pursuing his passion for drawing and painting through formal studies at the Art High School in Craiova, continuing at the University of Art in Bucharest, where he specialized in mural art. His artistic development was further enriched through advanced specialization in ancient mural painting at the Pontificio Istituto di Archeologia Cristiana in Rome, Italy, deepening his connection to sacred art, restoration, and classical artistic traditions. In 2009 George received his PhD in Fine and Decorative Arts from University of Timișoara. Currently George holds the title of Associate Professor, at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Bucharest, where he continues to mentor and shape new generations of artist. He is also an approved mentor and coordinator for PhD art students.
Over the decades, this foundation evolved into a distinguished international career marked by exhibitions across Europe, membership in the UNESCO-affiliated International Association of Plastic Arts, and an extensive academic career dedicated to artistic education. He also teaches Byzantine Art Restoration and Conservation at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Timișoara, Craiova and Galati.
